Honestly, it was all going so well. Then like an idiot I fired up Roadcraft again, and once again it's sapped away my will to do anything else but play this horribly addictive game.
Mainly because there's new DLC - 2 new levels (and if you know Roadcraft, you know their DLC might cost extra but those additions are usually worth the asking price) and a whole slew of new vehicles, including the tree-lopping tractor in the header image above.
So I started all over again, this time with a determination to do things differently, and play all of the levels (standard, DLC1 and DLC2) in order. Which has taken a very, very long time and has seen my playtime on this game nearly top 1000 hours. Oh my god, 1000 hours that I could've spent doing something more constructive (irony overload).
With the new vehicles unlocked from the start of the game, and all that nasty fuel / credit / sand rationing done away with (game mods I insist on, because no one wants to spend their entire game time building roads with continually dwindling supplies of sand) I started again and made more of an effort to scout out alternative routes and better ways of doing things, particularly on some of the more challenging levels where the designers really leaned into being cruel heartless bastards with their puzzle and challenge designs.
Since the updates, lots of the level challenges have been subtly tweaked, either that or my memory is fading and I've forgotten how tough those level challenges were. But I often find that playing the main challenges in order, then polishing off the secondary challenges is the way to go, even though sometimes that hobbles your ability to unlock waystations or production plants.
I got sucked in again though and I haven't even reached the two new levels. There really is no helping me, I'm horribly addicted once again and until the (rumoured) release of a full follow-up I bet I'll be playing this long into the summer.
